Olbia Monuments

monuments If you want to visit Sardinia via ship, Olbia is the largest port you can use to reach this island. Besides having a small airport, Olbia is also the main ferry destination in Sardinia.

The coast on which the town is located is better looking than the actual town, but there are still a couple of attractions there. You will find nice pubs, bars, Italian restaurants and a couple of Internet cafes. This is a very old city, which has its own unique museums and beautiful cathedrals. Some museums are actually housed in old buildings, which are worthy to be visited themselves.

One place I would suggest visiting is the Corso Umberto street, which is ancient, and a popular destination for tourists. There are plenty of cathedrals and churches on this street and they are museums at the same time. Besides offering prayer services, you can also take a guided tour in one of these churches, so you learn more about their history and what they contain. One thing that you’ll enjoy about them is their windows made of stained glass and the ancient organs.

The archaeological museum can be found in Olbia, near the water, and it’s the largest one in the town. Major concerts and openings are also held in this museum. Here you will find a lot of old artifacts, which have their origin, both from Sardinia and from the rest of Italy. Many of these artifacts are from Roman times, since they were the ones that established the town over two thousand years ago. If you visit it during the weekend, you have the chance to attend a concert and listen to some quality music.

Even though the town of Olbia doesn’t have many museums, you will still find many old buildings and monuments, which you will enjoy. The streets of Olbia can be a pleasure to visit, so just take a short walk and visit Piazza Regina Margherita or Porto Romano, and you will see many monuments, like the San Simplicio Basilica.
